In 1993, Bill Clinton became the 42nd president. Unforgiven won the Oscar for best picture. Gas was $1.16 a gallon. And Allied Pixel was born.

It didn’t start in the proverbial garage, but rather in the living room of my modest Dutch colonial twin on Linden Lane in Media, Pennsylvania. My idea was to explore the possibilities at the intersection of filmmaking and technology to help organizations tell their stories in new and engaging ways.

Back then we shot mostly on 16mm film. Laptops were a novelty and cost $5,000. But there were exciting things coming down the pike that could bring them together. In those days it was called multimedia and we were one of the early ones out of the gate to produce CD-ROM programs that brought interactivity to video.

Within a year my bedroom had become an edit suite and I moved out to live with my brother. My brilliant high school buddy Pete Bretz joined me to help leverage emerging technologies like Macromedia Director and Flash. Film transitioned to digital video, and then HD and 4K. Each step in the evolution gave us powerful new tools to help us craft stories in new and impactful ways. We won a bunch of awards and we grew.

It’s been a fantastic journey. And in what seems almost the blink of an eye, it’s 2023.

Today Pete is our VP of Technology and we have 35 people on the Allied Pixel team – a supremely talented group of production specialists and technology wizzes. We have become a leader in the field of data-driven Personalized Video, which allows our clients to tell their stories in uniquely personal ways.

I still get a huge kick out of seeing a client’s reaction the first time they see their video. For me, the thrill is in helping our clients succeed.

So where do we go from here? We will keep innovating and working hard to tell our clients’ stories in meaningful ways. I’m so excited about what our future holds – and grateful that you are a part of it.

Meet our team member Brian Shaud

Brian has held a variety of video production and post production roles including editing, motion graphics and shooting. He enjoys being behind the camera as much as in front of the computer creating content from scratch in After Effects. He is also an avid photographer.
