Virginia Tech, Columbine, Stockton, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Sandy Hook … the names are etched in our collective memory. There have been at least 254 school shootings in America since 2013. It is a sad fact that many students now view gun violence at school as a likelihood.
Schools are taking proactive steps to train students in the event of an active shooter situation. There are two main strategies:
- Shelter in Place
- Run, Hide, Fight
Making the right decision can be the difference between life and death. This video shows what to do in several different scenarios. Please note that portions of it may be disturbing.
There is just no way to justify the proliferation of automatic weapons in this country. This is not a political issue. This is a public safety issue. We need common sense gun controls and we need them now.
